Custom Donation Reimagines What Reading Can Be

July 31, 2025 — In a move that refreshes and reimagines the role of today’s libraries, Judith’s Reading Room has donated a custom-curated collection of graphic novels to the historic James Prendergast Library in Jamestown, NY.  The gift, designed to create a ”library-within-a-library” brings new energy, relevance, and excitement to the library’s offerings — particularly for teens, visual learners, and reluctant readers.  It is the organization’s 114th library in 27 countries around the world.

Heavy Sound, Cockenzie, Scotland Receives Curated Collection to Enhance its Existing Judith’s Reading Room library

June 3, 2025 — Judith’s Reading Room, the global literacy nonprofit organization based in eastern Pennsylvania, continued its “15 Libraries to Celebrate its 15th Anniversary  in 2025” by today installing its latest collection of books for teens at Heavy Sound, the Scottish nonprofit located near Edinburgh in the village of Cockenzie, Scotland.  Heavy Sound, founded by Jordan Butler, works with some of Scotland’s most vulnerable and disconnected teens with poor to no literacy.

April 4, 2025 —Judith’s Reading Room, the global literacy nonprofit organization founded in 2010 in the memory of Judith F. Krug, a distinguished American librarian and cousin to the organization’s founders, announced its latest donation of young adult (YA) and Graphic Novels to ‘Harkins House,’ a nationally recognized model program and short-term temporary residential shelter located in Hillsboro, Oregon near Portland.

April 1, 2025 —  The Methodist Children’s Home (MCH) in Ruston, Louisiana was honored with a custom collection of Young Adult and Graphic novels as a part of Judith’s Reading Room’s “15 Libraries to Celebrate its 15th Anniversary in 2025.”
 
As the flagship residential treatment program of Louisiana United Methodist Children & Family Services, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to the wellbeing of Louisiana’s children, MCH provides comprehensive, intensive residential treatment for approximately 240 children ages 11-17 each year.

September 12, 2024 —  Cathy and Scott Leiber, founders of Judith’s Reading Room, proudly announce that Jordan Butler, himself founder of the nonprofit Heavy Sound, East Lothian, Scotland is named recipient of the 2024 Founders’ Award. Cathy and Scott met Butler in August 2024 to dedicate the 107 th Judith’s Reading Room library in its 24th country at Heavy Sound, located near Edinburgh in the seaside village of East Lothian, Scotland.

Judith’s Reading Room announces its 107th Library Graphic Novels Will Enrich Lives of “Care-Experienced” Youth in Scotland — Judith’s Reading Room announced today that it will dedicate its 107th library in its 24th country in collaboration with Heavy Sound, Cockenzie, East Lothian, in the eastern central Lowlands of Scotland on August 10, 2024.
